PAMOS Launches Its First Certifying Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Workshop
The Philippine Association for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (PAMOS) successfully launched its 1st Certifying Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Workshop during the Philippine College of Surgeons Midyear Convention on May 6, 2026, at The Medical City Clark.
Led by Dr. Miguel Mendoza (President) and Dr. Jose Antonio Salud (Vice President), together with the PAMOS Officers and Board of Directors, this landmark initiative reinforces the organization's commitment to excellence, patient safety, and standardized training in metabolic and bariatric surgery.
The workshop, spearheaded by Dr. Raymond Andrew Ong and a distinguished panel of faculty, introduces a structured, competency-based certification pathway for Filipino surgeons through three key phases:
- Didactic Learning – Evidence-based lectures on patient selection, perioperative care, and surgical techniques.
- Hands-On Simulation – Practical training using ex vivo animate models under expert supervision.
- Supervised Clinical Cases – Mentored laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy procedures in accredited centers.
Participants who successfully complete all phases and meet competency standards will receive a Certificate of Competency in Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy from PAMOS.
